I was finally able to work on my Putts…..
Can you believe the weather? 70 degrees in January? Well, I took advantage of a fine winter opportunity. I went golfing. I really just wanted to go to the driving range, but you can’t bring beer to the driving range. So, off to the local public course we went. We chose the one of the finest courses in all the land……..Juniata Golf Club. That there course is the Taj Mahal of crappy courses. But it’s fine for hacks like us. My son and his buddy Mike tagged along for the day. They taught me all kinds of new "rules" for the game of golf. For Instance:
Rule #1 - When teeing off, if you flub your ball and it doesn’t exceed the distance of the women’s tees, you must then walk the rest of the hole with your "willy" exposed. Good thing, I always make it a point to tee off from the women’s tees, so there is no chance of not making it past them.
Rule#2 - While riding down a hill in the golf cart, the brake must not be applied. Only when the cart is at a 45 degree angle is braking allowed and that’s even boarder line.
Rule#3 - Don’t make fun of a large man who once got a cart stuck in the mud…..he doesn’t like that.
Anyway, it was a fun day. Mike ended the day with a 350 yard drive putting the ball 2 inches from the cup. That was incredible. It started raining, so we only played 9 holes. I am guessing it was 9 holes. Hmmm…. I had 9 beers, so it must have been at least the 8th or 9th hole. We’ll say the 9th.
After breaking 100 on the front 9, we went to happy hour. It was raining, so we chose a place close to the course, Walt’s Circle Tavern. Walt’s is known for "Crab Night." The bar has been there for about 50 years. We walked in and sat between a guy named "Needles" and a guy named Vince. Interesting conversation, I assure you. The happy hour is from 4-6 and they offer $1.25 pints. After last weeks festivities, we agreed to only stay for the happy hour……… and we made our best attempt to do just that. However, after a few shots of Christian Brothers and a couple "Stingers", it was a bit later than we figured. When I do something, I believe in giving my 100%.
So, I recommend stopping by Walt’s. Were else can I get a pint of beer and a pork roll and cheese sandwich for $3? I was pretty happy. I would be happier if the pints were a buck, but the extra quarter was worth meeting a guy named "Needles."
